Eighty years ago today, on January 27, Antal Szerb was murdered as a member of one of the last labor detachments sent to Auschwitz—tragically, on the very day the death camp was liberated. We spoke with writer Gergely Péterfy about this author, whose popularity remains undiminished to this day. Péterfy followed the characters of Journey by Moonlight all the way to Umbria, and he even shares personal ties with the writer who died tragically young.
